Blowing Up Ravening Hordes

Last night I was flipping through my battered Ravening Hordes.  What a great book!  I never ever use it, but it certainly is a joy to linger through occasionally.  Anyway,  I found that I was squinting to look at the photos.  I was about to go hunt for a magnifying glass when it hit me, "Why don't you just take pictures of the photos and blow them up!"  Yeah!   So that's what I did.  I was enjoying them right now and I thought I may as well share the ones that I liked.

I really dig the tapestry-like quality of these pics.  I would love to have wall-hangings of them!

I was finding many surprises and new things that I had never noticed before.

Enjoy.

  1. Thanks, I did enjoy them. A little after the time I was really into Fantasy gaming,(I'm a pre-slotta man) but great pictures. They remind me of Gary Chalk's artwork as well (I daresay he painted some of the figures too).

    1. Hi Springinsfeld,

Glad you liked them. Although, I agree, it would be amazing to find a pre-slotta spread sometime in full colour! Slightly related, I might be having a pre-slotta battle very soon (albeingwell), I've convinced my friend to break out his Grenadier Amazons for another go against Dwarves, this time Citadel guys. And yes, I can see what you mean about a Gary Chalk connection, although I didn't know GW was still using his painted figs at this time.

  2. Never knew it had colour pictures in it. I thought it was a purely B&W job?

Thanks for the pics, they look great.

    1. You're welcome, the one, and thanks! I think the colour photos in most copies of Ravening Hordes got lost along the way - glorious GW book-binding of the time, I think.

  4. Did you buy the deluxe hardback or something? I bought this a year or so ago, hoping there'd be just this sort of eye candy in it, but all there was was a tiny picture of Dwarfs fighting Skaven on the back cover...Thanks for sharing these!

    1. Hey Mouse,

No, this the regular old soft cover. I've had it for years and it is falling apart more with each passing year, especially the photo insert (it is only two full-colour pages in the middle of the book). I'm sure yours originally had it in there too. Hey Happy Thanksgiving to you and to Blue in VT!
